The University Library essentially acquires, organizes, preserves and provides access to variety of information resources (print and non-print) to support both staff and students in teaching, learning and research. The University Library provides access to electronic resources at the e-Library, popularly referred to as UNICAL e-Library; besides, access to electronic resources at the e-library can be done remotely by staff and students within and outside the university depending on the types of e-resources (databases). The basic aim of the University Library therefore is to promote scholarship in teaching, learning and research in line with the emerging digital environment. In view of this, the computerization process of library and information resources/services is in progress.
The Directorate of Alumni Affairs emerged as a child of necessity from the immediate past management of the University of Calabar with the primary aim of reinforcing the operational architecture of the alumni relations office.
To achieve this, a formidable committee/think tank was set up with the strong mandate to review the activities of the alumni relations office.
The Eleven man Committee was headed by our Zero Zero one (001), a seasoned educationist, counselor and a non- robbotish Professor in the person of Professor (Mrs) Eno Macaulay Ukpong.
The committee in its wisdom recommended the upgrade of the alumni relations office to a Directorate of Alumni Affairs to be headed by an Alumnus Professor as the Director and deputized by an Alumnus Associate Professor or a non teaching staff not below the rank of a deputy registrar.
The pioneer Director was Professor Emmanuel Eyo Ekanem with Professor Ernest-Bassey Etta Asikong as the current Director. Mr Emmanuel Adariku, a Senior Assistant Regisrar (SAR) is the Deputy Director.
Since its upgrade, the Directorate has developed its vision, mission and philosophy as roadmap.
• Vision:
To be the epi-centre of Alumni activities in the university and creating healthy competition amongst alumni chapters, groups and individuals geared towards contributing significantly to the development of our alma mater.

This was acclaimed by the National President of CAANU as the best organized in recent times, demonstrating the usual Malabitic spirit in organization.
I wish to use this opportunity to formerly inform all our Alumni that the Management of the university has approved an annual Unical Alumni week which was proposed by the Directorate of Alumni Affairs. This is to be organized yearly, preferably in the first week of March, just before the convocation ceremony.
I wish to sincerely appeal to all Alumni who have had issues and are still facing challenges with respect to transcripts to please bear with the University, your Alma mater (Mother) which gave birth to you academically. Our passionate current first female (Alumna) and 11th Vice Chancellor, Professor Florence Banku Obi, through the office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics and the entire management staff are taking proactive steps to find a lasting solution to the transcripts delays and other bottlenecks associated with it. Solution is in sight very soon.
Since the assumption of office of the new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, the University has witnessed great stimulus and pragmatic sense of direction. Several committees have been set up to reappraise the State of the University, including the Needs Assessment, Baseline Assessment, COVID 19, and several others. Most committees have turned in their reports with very frightening revelations of the true state of the University.
The University was the worst hit by the EndSARS protest which vandalized and destroyed some infrastructure of the University including, the University of Calabar Hotels and Conference Centre, the Academic Publishing Centre APC, Faculty of Pharmacy and the Students residential hostels. It is estimated that properties worth over 1.3 billion naira was destroyed. This has left the University highly devastated and handicapped with a clarion call for assistance by all well meaning Alumni.
We are indeed proud to be products of this great University, which stands neath the broad expanse of Nigeria’s sky with a bright mission of upholding the banner of knowledge high. These find expressions in the production of high quality graduates and scholars in various professions who are contributing significantly to the development of knowledge, locally, nationally and in the international community.
We therefore wish to invite you to visit our website at https://www.unical.edu.ng/alumni/ and be ready to give back to our great Alma Mater which has laid the golden foundation in you for great exploits in your various professions.
We also encourage you to register with the newly developed website by the University of Calabar Alumni Association for the purpose of updating the Alumni data base.
The new Management of the University, led by a Distinguished Teacher Prof. Florence Banku Obi is working hard to reposition the University for greater impact to the society. This calls for support by all Alumni at home and in the Diasporas.
Below in the list of Alumni who have contributed to the growth and development of the University. Enlist your name or that of your class and group.
I welcome you all to the year especially to the second half of the year.
